Investigative reporter Aileen Greene discovers a filing for 1,300 megawatts at a proposed "data center" in Adams County, Ohio—thirty-one times the county's entire electricity use. As Aileen digs deeper, a forensic accountant leads her to a 1998 GAO report: the Pentagon lost track of $21 trillion. The money wasn't lost. It was moved to build massive underground bunkers for the ultra-wealthy—self-sustaining cities for when the world above becomes uninhabitable. The "data centers" are power banks and surveillance hubs, the infrastructure for a future that does not include the rest of us.
